My "Belief" transcends mere visual documentation, presenting an incisive photographic exploration into the multifaceted expressions of faith across North India. This series critically examines the intricate rituals, diverse media, and profound psychological underpinnings that drive humanity's ceaseless quest for an intangible higher truth or power within the vibrant, often paradoxical, landscape of modern India. Far from a simplistic portrayal, "Belief" uncovers the enduring power of ancient spiritual practices coexisting and, at times, colliding with the nation's contemporary identity.

The narrative arc of "Belief" traverses the spiritual epicentres of Varanasi, New Delhi, Vrindavan, and Bhopal, offering a nuanced perspective on the country's devotional spirit. Varanasi emerges not merely as an ancient city but as a crucible of fervent spirituality, where individuals across generations converge upon the sacred Ganges. My eyes scrutinise the extraordinary spectrum of devotion, from the symbolic relinquishment of worldly possessions into the river's current—a desperate plea for divine intervention—to the quiet transfer of wisdom from mentors to disciples in the labyrinthine alleys. The poignant portrayal of elders seeking a celestial afterlife, drawing parallels with the myth of King Harishchandra, delves into the deep-seated anxieties and aspirations tied to eschatological beliefs. The capture of a young girl at Dev Deepavali, praying amidst a unique mud light spectacle, offers a poignant microcosm of individual yearning within a grand collective ritual.
